WHIPlash

Whiplash

Also known as neck sprain or strain, whiplash involves an injury to the neck, and is commonly caused by a car accident, blow to the head or repetitive stress injury. In addition to pain, patients with whiplash also experience swelling, tenderness, muscle spasms, nausea, blurred vision, ear ringing and headaches.

Chiropractic care is often effective in relieving symptoms of whiplash. Other treatment options may include over-the-counter pain relievers, applying ice or heat and corticosteroid injections.  Most patients recover fully from this condition within 12 weeks.

Whiplash occurs when the neck exceeds its normal range of motion, most commonly occurring as a result of a car accident.  The primary cause of pain is the stretching and tearing of the ligaments and muscles in the neck.
